About:

As the population of the City continues to grow, we need to plan for Kingston's future transportation system and services. Whether you walk, cycle, roll, travel by transit or motor vehicle, we need to hear from you!

Survey Login

The 2024 Kingston Household Travel Survey is a confidential and voluntary travel survey that tells us how, why and where randomly selected residents of the City travel. Since the last household travel survey was completed in 2019, it's now time to update the survey in order to gain a better understanding of residents' current travel patterns. The data collected will be used to:

  • update the City's transportation model;
  • analyze how travel patterns have changed since the 2019 survey;
  • provide valuable information for updates to the City's Official Plan and Integrated Mobility Plan;
  • inform future decisions about the City's transportation system and services.

Beginning in early September and continuing throughout the fall, survey invitations will be randomly distributed to residents in Kingston. Participants can complete the survey by phone or online.

Your participation is important!

If you received a letter from the City of Kingston you have been randomly selected to participate in the study. You have the chance to shape your City's transportation future!

Students from Queen's University, St. Lawrence College, and the Royal Military College have also been invited to participate in the survey, to ensure adequate representation of their travel patterns.

The goal of the survey is to understand where people are going and how they get there by collecting information on the trips made by each member of your household. The information you provide will be used to make informed transportation decisions on future planning and investment for roads, public transit, and other transportation facilities to make it easier to get where you need to go.

It is important that we gather information from residents from all walks of life who use any mode of transportation - including pedestrians, cyclists, transit users and motorists - regardless of how many trips they took.

In September 2024, letters including details about the survey will be sent to randomly selected households. The survey will take a typical household about 10 to 25 minutes to complete. The length of the survey will vary by the size of your household and the extent of your travel activity.
